Medical Topic of the day:
Today's Topic: Ebola!
Not to be confused with this. |
Nobody ever wants to hug me! |
The exact origin of the Ebola virus is uncertain but most experts believe it originates in African primates and appears to be native to the African continent although it has appeared in the Philippines as well. How transmission of the virus between primates and humans occurs is not known but it is believed to be from direct contact. So don't hug monkeys or baboons in Africa.
No hugz? :( |
Incubation of the Ebola virus is from 2 to 21 days with a sudden onset of clinical symptoms. Headache, fever, and muscles aches are common in early onset often followed by GI upset and bleeding as well as bleeding from mucous membranes. A skin rash may also occur. Fatalities usually result from myocarditis or pulmonary edema.
There is no FDA approved treatment regimen for ebola virus. You either survive it with supportive care or you don't. The most lethal variant of the Ebola virus is the Zaire variant which has an 89% mortality rate in humans.

The infamous Red BAron was a shitty pilot but a great marksman. He had a small silver cup for each person he had shot down engraved with their names. 80 cups in total.
