**Update**  I will be blogging remotely for the next 8 days so my I will try my best to get stuff up in a timely manner but there may be some delays.

Medical Topic of the day:
Today's Topic:  Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, lets do this!

Off the top of my head:  Something to do with your heart.  I am not entirely sure.  Probably hereditary.

My research today:  Wolf-Parkinson-White Syndrome or WPW syndrome is defined as the presence of an extra, abnormal electrical pathway in the heart that leads to sporadic episodes of tachycardia.  It usually manifests in adolescence or your early 20s.

WPW abnormality is present at birth and is caused by a gene mutation.  In WPW syndrome the extra electrical pathway is between your atria and ventricles and the impulse from the SA node (your heart's primary pacemaker) can bypass the AV node causing your ventricles to activate too early.  This condition is called "preexcitation."

Sometimes I have a problem with preexcitation too.
It happens to a lot of guys.
You can have two different types of arrhythmia with WPW syndrome: Looped electrical impulses which causes AV reentrant tachycardia with rapid ventricular impulses or Disorganized electrical impulses which causes atrial fibrillation.

Worst case scenario it will kill you suddenly or cause heart failure, more minor symptoms are hypotension, or syncope.  WPW syndrome can be treated with medications, cardiac ablation of the extra electrical pathway, cardioversion, or vagal maneuvers like coughing or bearing down like you're having a bowel movement.

And maybe poop your pants.
So there you go.  There is your info for the day.  Special shout out to Margaux for another topic suggestion. If you'd like to suggest a topic shoot me an email.
